Het Gelders Orkest stands for quality, innovation, development of talent and inspiration. With a youthful, energetic spirit and a recognizable, transparent sound, the orchestra performs symphonic music at the highest level, inspired by chief conductor Antonello Manacorda. Each year, more than 100,000 general audience members, schoolchildren and amateur musicians enjoy the activities of the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, from traditional concerts to Valentine’s Day events, from family concerts to club nights.

More than 2,000 people and some 50 businesses contribute to funding the orchestra, which was established through a private initiative in 1889. The combination of artistic quality and efficient, market-oriented organization make the Arnhem Philharmonic one of the most modern orchestral organizations in the Netherlands.

Het Gelders Orkest was established by the Arnhem Orchestra Society in 1889, making it one of the oldest symphony orchestras in the Netherlands. In 1949, it became known in the Netherlands as Het Gelders Orkest and continued to develop under conductors such as Carl von Caraguly, Yoav Talmi, Roberto Benzi, Lawrence Renes and Martin Sieghart into one of the Netherlands leading regional orchestras. In September 2011, it named Antonello Manacorda as chief conductor.

Socially, the orchestra sees itself as a channel for passing on the passion for live classical music to both young and old. To that end, each year it organizes a large number of family and educational concerts and special participatory projects for amateurs, in addition to recording multiple (live) CDs. Together with composer-in-residence Martijn Padding, the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra generates fresh ideas to connect with new audiences. The orchestra feels itself supported in its mission by a faithful audience and a continually growing group of Friends, Partners and Patrons.
